Nextgen Builders LLC was founded in 2001 as a Construction and Project Management  company in Columbus, Ohio. Nextgen Builders designed and constructed luxury homes ranging from 2500 sq ft to over 6000 sq ft.  and price ranging from $350K to $1.5 Million.  The company quickly became known for its design innovations and technology  applications it employs in the construction of luxury homes.  Nextgen routinely  employs such technology as Radiant Hydronic floor heating systems, High Velocity HVAC systems, Tankless  Water Heater energy saving systems and Whole House Audio and mini PBX telephone systems.  Nextgen homes are also  known for its exterior curb appeal, extensive interior trim, opulent baths, grand staircases and exquisite kitchens. Nextgen LLC is a State of Ohio Certified MBE and EDGE business. Nextgen is also a Certified Green Builder designated by the NAHB.

Bert Thomas  

CEO/ CONSTRUCTION  MANAGER

Bert is the founder and President of Nextgen Builders, a construction and management company in Columbus, Ohio.  He has over  7 years executive experience in the Construction industry.  Bert developed Nextgen Builders  sales and marketing strategies to penetrate its niche market and is responsible for the successful day to day operation of the company.  He established and negotiated lines of credit with Banking institutions and major building suppliers to ensure appropriate levels of project funding and to optimize company cash  flow.   Bert Co-authored Nextgen Builders company policies, procedures and business processes. Bert directly managed marketing, sales, administrative and project management staff.  He developed and maintained successful client,  subcontractor and supplier relationships.  He also consulted with architects, engineers and subcontractors  to develop and design home plans based on client  requirements.  He prepared detailed cost estimates for each project  based on  plan specifications.  Bert worked directly with  building inspectors and  zoning officers  to meet design standards and building codes. He also planned construction methods and procedures and developed scope of work documentation for all Nextgen subcontractors.

Bert has extensive experience in project management developed over many years working for several major corporations ( Harris corporation, AT&T Bell Laboratories, Lucent Technologies) and has applied those skills successfully in the  construction management of all the Nextgen custom homes.  He  applied extensive knowledge of MS Project and EXCEL customized software programs to monitor and control multiple projects. Bert has taken multiple project management courses and has working knowledge of the PMBOK guide in Initiating, Planning, Executing, Monitoring, Controlling and Closing construction  projects. Bert is especially adept at recognizing Critical paths in a construction project and applying corrective measures through risk management techniques.

Bert possess in-depth knowledge of construction technologies including Green Building technologies, energy star rating standards, radiant heated floor technologies, solar PV technologies, geothermal technologies and structured wiring  applications.   Possess working knowledge of the National Electric Code and is  familiar with AUTOCAD Viewers utilized to read and analyzed engineered drawings.

Bert has over 20 years of progressive experience in the Telecommunications industry and possess extensive business expertise in conducting international business with Wireless Service  Providers and PTTs. He has formulated marketing strategies including Technology Transfer solutions to support international sales opportunities. He Negotiated licensing arrangements, Joint Ventures and Distributorships with global contractors to penetrate international markets. Bert has traveled extensively to Europe , Latin America and Africa to propose, negotiate and implement wireless localization projects. He has extensive knowledge of regulatory matters, FCC issues and ITU standards.

Sandra Thomas  

BUSINESS / PROJECT MANAGER

Sandra brings to the company over 25 years of business and project management experience.  She has overall accountability for timely completion and project profitability.  She develops and coordinates project schedules, reports and documentation from pre-construction thru close-out. Sandra possess extensive experience utilizing project management applications. She is experience managing relationships with contractors, suppliers, architects, engineers and clients on a professional level. Sandra demonstrates solid understanding of financial management and analysis. She has hands on experience with contract negotiation, budget preparation and executing change orders. She has excellent computer skills implementing MS Project, Excel, Word, and MS Power Point.

Sandra track schedules and work with the construction manager to level schedules and implement contingencies. She also works with manufacturers and suppliers to source material to meet customer specifications.  She resolve  customer disputes, manage bank draws and pay authorization to suppliers and sub-contractors.  Sandra conducts quality checks prior to project close-out and  prepare documentation for financial audits. She prepare and administer trade contractor agreements and participate in contract negotiations, pre-construction meetings and final  customer  walk-throughs.

Sandra has varying experience within the information technology industry. She developed data models and defined data architectures. She also developed and implemented the software and hardware life cycle strategy for new and existing products. She prepared product revenue forecast,  wrote RFIs, review RFPs and prepare bids for proposals. He also managed cross functional teams in multiple locations. Sandra facilitated project review meetings, mitigated risk and communicate project status. She prepared and presented analytical reports to executive management. She also has responsibility for development and test strategy as well as product delivery.

James Nutor  

REAL ESTATE DEVELOPMENT MANAGER

James Nutor is a Real Estate sales profession licensed in the State of Ohio.  He has over 7 years experience in the Real Estate and Building industry and over 14 years experience in the Scientific Research and Development (R&D) industry, dealing with government contracts.  James has extensive experience with government regulatory issues from various branches of the U.S. government such as the National Institute of Health (NIH), Department of Defense (DoD), and the Federal Drug Administration (FDA).  He works effectively in multidisciplinary teams and has managed teams of people with diverse skills and experiences.  Some of his management responsibilities have included staff supervision, defining technical objectives, providing work assignments, project scheduling, program monitoring, budget maintenance and staff performance review.   

James has experience with major construction projects such as the Modern Science Lab on BMI’s Columbus campus which has won national acclaim and has been duplicated since in other cities.  In these construction projects, he was the scientific liaison officer selected to ensure that all aspects of the design and construction were ergonomically and environmentally friendly to the scientist. In this capacity he consulted with architects, engineers, subcontractors  and construction crew to achieve these goals.  In the process, he also worked directly with  building inspectors and  zoning officers  to meet design standards and building codes.

James  gained expertise in project management while working as a Principal Research Scientist at Battelle Memorial Institute (BMI).   BMI is a major US government contractor and an R&D company. He was responsible for selling projects, writing proposals, building client relationships, supervising staff, and project management . He applied his knowledge of MS Project, MS word, MS Excel and other specific research tools and software to accomplish the R&D projects.  James has applied these skills in his work as a Real Estate Sales consultant on new build projects for Nextgen  Builders.
